The Great Physician
Acts 3
Life application from our Scripture:
Our great Physician has the prescription to heal our broken lives.
Introduction to our Scripture:
If we ever need the great Physician at any age in the world, it is now. The whole world is sick with sin, and we need the Physician.
Discussion of the Scripture:
Our Need
We are find ourselves in the position of spiritual beggars because of the devastating effects of sin.
Romans 5:12-21
Romans 6:23
Psalm 90:7-8, For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
Despite the crippling effects of sin, we can begin to walk and leap for joy through Christ.
His Credentials
He was glorified by God–Acts 3:13
He was verified by fulfilled prophecy–Acts 3:14-15, 18
He was attested by the miraculous works of the Holy Spirit–Acts 3:16-17
Acts 2:22-24
John 20:30-31
Mark 16:17-20
His Prescription
Repent–Acts 3:19
1 Kings 8:46-51
Acts 17:30
Be converted–Acts 3:19
Literally “Turn again” it is a command to act. It is not a description of something that happens to you.
“Be converted” holds the same place as “be baptized” in Acts 2:38.
In chapter 2 Peter said, repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
In chapter 3 Peter said, repent and turn again so that your sins will be blotted out and you the presence of the Lord will come.
Therefore, “turn again” is simply another way to describe what happens when individuals turn to God by being baptized.
Be faithful–Acts 3:22-23.
God sent Moses as a lawgiver–Deuteronomy 18:15. Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Those who rejected Moses perished–Deuteronomy 18:19. Those who reject Christ will certainly perish as well–Acts 4:12.
We are faithful to Christ by keeping His Word.
We must keep His commandments.
We must not go beyond what is written through far right or far left radicalism.
We must not allow ourselves to become unprofitable stewards.
Invitation from our Scripture:
The Physician as spoken. His prescription is written. Will we accept it? Will we do what we must to be spiritually health?
