MANAGING OUR SIN PROBLEM

Sin is a problem that you can’t get out of your life, but you can manage it by walking with Jesus and following Biblical principles. My little Sophie, who is five, has diabetes. We know that we can’t cure the problem, but we can manage the problem by taking the right medications and avoiding certain foods.
This side of Heaven we will always struggle with sin. We will never completely get it out of our lives, but we can manage our sin and minimize it by walking with Jesus and following Biblical principles.

**LOOK TO GOD AS THE STANDARD–1 John 1:5**
We can’t expect to find a perfect standard of morality in people. Mark 10:18 tells us that God is the personification of goodness. We get in trouble when we make our little social group or society at large the judge of our actions. 1 Samuel 10:19 shows how the Israelites wanted a king like the nations around them, but in doing so they had rejected God as king. They suffered because they looked around for answers rather than looking up for the right answer.

**BE HONEST WITH OTHERS–1 John 1:6**
Do you pretend to be someone you aren’t? Would you like for everyone to think you are a Christian, but you don’t really want to put forth the devotion to God? Do you honor God with your hearts or with your words–Mark 7:6-7? Jesus said that outward display without inward devotion is hypocrisy. If you acknowledge to others that you have problems, you will be much more likely to overcome those problems.

**CHERISH CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP–1 John 1:7**
Forgiveness is a great blessing for those who are with Christ. However, when we begin to hold hands with the world when we walk with the Lord we are in trouble. Walk worthy of the name Christian–Ephesians 4:1 & trust in Jesus’ intercession–Romans 8:34.

**BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF–1 John 1:8**
We can have some wildly distorted self-images. We can even deceive ourselves into thinking we are great, but the Bible tells us that all our righteousness is like filthy rags. Be honest with yourself about your struggles and be honest with yourself with your struggle to do better. James 1:22-25 tells us about a man who knows to do better but deceives himself into thinking he is alright and goes on about his day. Try to live with a healthy conscience 1 John 3:20.

**RESPECT AND UTLIZE GOD’S LAW OF PARDON–1 John 1:9**
Acts 2:38–for the alien sinner. 1 John 1:9 for the Christian sinner

**PUT GOD’S WORD IN YOUR HEART–1 John 1:10**
There is no greater example of overcoming temptation than Jesus is Matthew 4. There Jesus quoted Scripture to remove Satan from his presence. We are to replace sinful desires and actions with spiritual desires and actions by making God’s word at home in our hearts and minds–Ephesians 5:18-19 & Psalm 119:11.

Get to work on your sin problem. It will not go away on its own. You must do your part to take keep yourselves from sin. Thankfully, we have Jesus who is himself the great High Priest, the Savior, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, the Mediator between God and man, and the Judge of all the earth. Have you allowed Jesus’ work and Jesus’ Word to manage your sin problem until we are finally at home with Him in Heaven?
