The headlines have been filled with news of “Obama Care” or the “Affordable Care Act”. When asked, 47% approve of “The Affordable Care Act”, but only 37% approve of “Obama Care”. Whatever you think of the new health care laws, we know that God cares and has implemented the greatest health care plan available.
GOD’S CARE FOR US ON EARTH
God has arranged the world so that we have the opportunity for provision. Acts 14:17 says, “He did good and gave you from Heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.” When God first created mankind,”the LORD GOD took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it” (Gen. 2:15).
God has arranged the church for our care. The church of Christ in the New Testament was devoted to one another. They sold their goods to provide for those who were hurting financially (Acts 2:44-45; Acts4:36-37). They had a daily ministry of providing for the poor in their area (Acts 6:1-5). Paul and his company of followers were sent by the congregations to deliver benevolence to those of “his own nation” (Acts 24:1717). The collection on the first day of the week was gathered so that the poor among the saints in Jerusalem could be relieved (1 Cor. 16:1-2).
God has arranged for us to have an abundant life on earth. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly” (Jn. 10:10). Jesus is offered a gift to the world which delivers the forgiveness of sins (Jn. 3:16) and leadership in his family the church (Eph. 1:22-23). The greatest life that can be lived is following the footsteps of Jesus.
GOD’S CARE FOR US IN HEAVEN
God’s health care plan reaches its full potential in Heaven. The blessings Christians enjoy in this world are but a taste of the spiritual feast reserved in Heaven. The Great Physician’s work is seen in Revelation 22:3, “there shall be no curse anymore: and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be therein: and his servants shall serve him; and they shall see his face” (Rev. 22:3-4).
God has made it possible for us to go to Heaven. God’s merciful love is highlighted throughout the Bible by God’s offer of forgiveness and reconciliation. Hope was first offered to sinful man in Genesis 3:15, and the promises of the Messiah multiply throughout the Old Testament. Finally, the angel announced to Joseph “she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for it he that shall save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). This Jesus died on the cross in order that redemption would be possible (Matt. 26:26-28; Col. 1:19-20). This beautiful plan of forgiveness was announced in Acts 2. The crowd was told how to enter into a covenant relationship with God and thereby receive the benefits of Christianity “repent and be baptized every one of you” (Acts 2:38). The faithful lived their lives in the warmth of God’s care.
