It is time. It is time to save souls. We think about evangelism, we hope for evangelism, we get excited about visitors, but what are we intentionally doing to evangelize?  Hoping isn’t what God sent us to do.  

The Great Commission says “Go and make” not “sit and hope”. What can we do to be intentional about evangelism?

First, we need to know what evangelism is. Jesus described it as being “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).  Acts 5:28 describes it as “filling the whole area with his teaching.”  The English word “evangelism” has simply been borrowed from Greek and means to share good news. This is the privileged responsibility of every Christian. 

Secondly, we must pray. Jesus told us to “pray to the Lord of harvest to send forth reapers” (Luke 10:2). We should not only pray for the Lord to send others, but we should first pray that God would send us. 

We must also be prepared. 1 Peter 3:15 tells us to “sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”  Knowing God’s Book is an amazing blessing, and knowing His plan should lead to sharing His plan. 

Finally, we must be evangelistic on purpose.  I challenge you to choose some individuals to pray for and teach the Gospel over the next 10 days. Don’t just hope for an accidental sharing of the Gospel. Teach someone on purpose.
