Acts 16:1-3 records:
Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek. He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium. Paul wanted to have him go on with him.

A young man with potential was claimed by a man with training and a heart for training others.  This pattern has proven effective in the life of Paul already as he was himself “adopted”, promoted, and molded by Barnabas (Acts 9:27). Furthermore, Paul commanded Timothy to continue this practice of mentoring disciples for Christ in 2 Timothy 2:2. 
I thank God for those who mentor me. I needed them and I still need them. I have noticed that mentors have some of the following characteristics: 

1. They have “Book Learning” –2 Timothy 2:15; 3:15-16

2. They have been to “The School of Experience”—Hebrews 5:8

3. They are willing to sacrifice themselves and  their time in order to patiently share this education with others—Romans 1:9-12. 
I challenge you to be blessed in three activities:

1. Cherish the memory of those who molded you into the image of Christ—Hebrews 13:7.

2. Honor their work, and the work of Christ, by living exemplary Christian lives—Hebrews 12:1-2.

3. I still God’s patterns and God’s grace in others who will teach others also—2 Timothy 2:2.
