There isn’t a thing in this world I love more than preaching God’s Word. But every day isn’t Sunday and every day isn’t sunny. How can we enjoy every day?

Sometimes we long for the way it used to be. However, Ecclesiastes 7:10 says, Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.” We can’t sit around and look to the days ahead either. Continual hoping for a better future could waste the potential of today. Instead, let us learn to enjoy the day the Lord has made no matter what the day may hold.

Psalm 118:24 tells us, “This is the day the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” We can always find reason to rejoice. We know that troubles abound, but at the same time we know that “all things work together for good for them that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28). We also go through times when joys abound. Then it is sometimes easy to forget the Lord, however, we should learn to be better at counting our blessings.

Job is a great example of trying to make the most of the day. He said, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). What has the Lord given you today? What has the Lord taken away? Either way He remains blessed in our sight. He remains our Father who knows how to bless his children. He remains the great Sovereign over all the earth.

We will learn to enjoy the day, when we learn to trust the Lord. “The just shall live by faith” (Hab. 2:4). This is a great help. This is the source of our joy. However, walking by faith is also a tremendous and difficult skill to learn. While we may not know what is on the horizon, we know the one who holds to our hand as we learn to enjoy walking with him in sunshine and rain. Let us be thankful for every season of life that God uses for His glory and our edification.
