“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). What type of person do you want to be? What type of person has God instructed us to be? The way we think determines the way we live.
God tells us to “be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2). This is a continual struggle. As we go to God’s Word, our minds are refocused upon God and molded into the proper image. Refocusing is vital.
Paul struggled with his focus just as we do. He wrote,
“For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.”
Paul struggled just as we do. But notice where that struggle occurred–“in my inner being” and “with my mind.” Therefore, if we are going to win our struggles with temptation, we must win the battles in our minds.
Where are our minds? “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” How are we? How do we want to be? How does God want us to be?
