The horrible weather has a lot of people down. The hurricanes in the south have been devastating for many families and businesses. With all the storms coming and the water rising, thousands have been fleeing to higher ground for safety. Thankfully, there was safety to be found. Over one hundred souls have agreed to Bible study through the work of churches of Christ and several have obeyed the Gospel of Christ already. There is safety to be found.

The 61st Psalm is a cry for help. “Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint” (Psalm 61:1). When we are suffering, we learn to turn to the Lord. When we turn to the Lord in times of distress, we find help and safety. David prayed, “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy” (Psalm 61:3). David wanted to be close to God because he had learned from experience the safety that comes in trusting Him. So he again prayed, “Let me dwell in your tent forever!” (Psalm 61:4).

When we recognize the blessed comfort of being with God, why would we ever want to leave him? We must be with him. We must serve him. We must be faithful to him. As David said, “So will I ever sing praises to your name, as I perform my vows day after day.” (Psalm 61:8).
