Decisions have to be made, but how do we go about making decisions? Typically, we don’t really deliberate about a decision. We tend to rely on our intuition more than deliberation. Even when we do think about a decision we have to make, we are usually just trying to prove what we intuitively thought was right at the beginning. How do we know this is the case? Just think about how often you actually change your mind. Is it because you are never wrong? Or is it because we typically work to prove our intuitions rather than find the truth.

Through the Bible, God works to form our conscience and our intuition. The Scriptures mold us if we allow them to work on us. This is why Paul wrote, “Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” (Col. 3:1-2). God gives us a new mind through Scripture.

The continual pursuit of Christ shapes our minds and our intuitive abilities. When we are always looking to, and for Christ, then our mind becomes trained to think about Christ and how that we might glorify him. What a blessing it is to be shaped by Christ for Christ. This is the type of mindset, and intuitive mechanism we must pursue. Think about how we will be better ambassadors for Christ when we have this mindset.

We will begin to have a cruciform filter to our world. We will begin to make reason about things as they relate to Christ. Our relationships will begin to be Christlike. Our marriages will be Christlike. Our parenting will be Christlike. Our congregation will be Christlike. We will have a Christlike influence on those around us.

How is the Christian’s intuitive ability developed? First, recognize that this cultivation is an aspect of our ongoing sanctification for which we must strive. Paul told us not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds as we present oursevels as living sacrifices (Rom. 12:1-2). This “renewing of our minds” is brought about by the nourishment from God through the Scriptures. As we spend time with God in his Word, we are able to be conformed to his image and therefore begin to think more in Christlike ways. If we turn to the world and things of the world which we love, we will find our intuition and decision making ability will be worldly rather than heavenly. Our thinking will be inherently inferior if we insist on being shaped by things below rather than the One from above and the things from above.
