When she was little, my Sophie would wake up every morning saying, “Suns up guys, Suns Up!” Wouldn’t it be great to be that excited to see the sun every morning. Both the sunrise and the sunset are beautiful and beckon us to awe. Beauty is in the universe because the God who created the universe is perfectly beautiful. His works share in his nature and reflect his glory.

The most beautiful of God’s actions is the sending of his Son to be the Savior of his people. This glorious Divine act will never be fully appreciated, nor its truths fully known. Still yet we cannot help but to marvel at the beauty of Jesus and hope that the beauty of Jesus will be seen in us.

Isaiah 52 is a call for God’s people to wake up and see something beautiful. The prophet used the phrase “wake up”  in 51:9, 17; and 52:1. The people had drifted off into sin and suffered the nightmares of sin, but God was doing something they needed to see. God was making the Son to rise. The people needed to wake up and see what God was doing. They needed to wake up and “put on their beautiful garments” (52:1). Why? They needed to see God. God said, “Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore, in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.” (Is. 52:6). This is the message, and the Messenger is described in verse 7, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news.” What is the good news? “The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God” (52:10). How did that happen? It was Jesus. He is the manifestation of deity in the flesh (Jn. 1:14).

But there is another beautiful thing to see. Paul applied Is. 52:7 (how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!) in Romans 10:15. But notice a small purposeful difference. In Isaiah it is “the feet of him” in Romans it is “the feet of those.” Christ is the one who preached the good news and now Christians are able to preach the good news too! How beautiful! In fact, is there anything more beautiful?
