The Search for Quality Living

I know you are busy. I know there are 100 things left to do after you have done 1000. But there is one thing that you must do—spend time with your God. Jesus said, “this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (Jn. 17:3).

First note the quality of life that only God supplies. It is eternal life. The eternal life refers not only to the length of “time” but also to the quality of time which God supplies. We are ushered into his presence. We are blessed by him now, but we will experience those blessings to the fullest degree when Jesus returns.

We also need to note how we can have this quality of life—to know God. God has revealed himself through his Son and in the Scriptures written by his Spirit. The only way we can come to know God and enjoy this eternal life is through Jesus and the Spirit inspired Scriptures.

Stop right there for a second. Think of all the other things we are doing. Think of all the other things we want to do. Think of all the things we think we have to do. Think of all the things we think will make us happy (i.e. give us the quality of life we want). Our Creator and Sovereign Lord said the quality of life we actually want and need can only be found as we know God and the Son whom he has sent through the Word which the Spirit has inspired.

So what are we going to do? Keep fighting for things that God said will not really make us happy? Keep looking for something or someone who will make everything right? Or maybe we should just stop and know God. “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress” (Ps. 46:10).
