Busy Bees

Bees may very well be the most important animal on the planet (I do not view humans as animals. We are created in the image of God to be his reflecting ambassadors bringing about his rule on earth). Bees spread pollen. I don’t like pollen, but we all depend on pollen. That pollen, that the bees spread, spreads new plant life around the globe (yes, it is a globe). Without the bees, the plants die. Without the plants the animals die. Without the animals, there is no fried chicken and I will die. Bees are important.

This isn’t breaking news, but it is important news because the bees are dying. No one is certain about why bees are dying, but we know that they are dying. We aren’t sure of how to save them, but we know we must save the bees. If we don’t save the bees, we are killing ourselves.

More important than saving the bees is the saving of souls. Souls aren’t being saved as we would like because the “soul saving bees” are going extinct. Christian, you are more important than the bees. The bees have put on earth to spread pollen to spread life. Christians are put on earth to spread the Gospel which gives life.

“The Scripture says, ‘all those who believe on him will not be put to shame'” (Rom. 10:11). Paul asked, “How, therefore, will they call on him if they do not believe? And how will they believe unless they hear? And how will they hear without a preacher?” (Rom. 10:14). In Hebrews we are taught that “Without faith, it is impossible to please him” (Heb. 11:6). Back to Romans we are taught that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17). Then remember again the important question, “how will they hear without a preacher?” (Rom. 10:14).

Christians, you are the ones God has put here to spread the message. Without you the soul saving seed. In his parable of the sower Jesus identified the seed as the Word of God (Lk. 8:11). Peter said that God has “caused us to be born again–not by corruptible seed but by imperishable–through the living word of God which abides” (1 Pet. 1:23). This is why we are commanded to “preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:1-4).

Christians, you are more valuable than many sparrows and more important than all the bees. Why? Because we aren’t just spreading pollen to keep food growing and people alive. We are spreading the Gospel through which God saves souls. This is far more important than food. Jesus said “work not for food that perishes” (Jn. 6:27). The Great Commission isn’t a mild suggestion. This is King Jesus’ command for his people to preach the Gospel to every creature.

It would be sad to see the last bee pass away. Life would soon end.

It would be far worse to see the last evangelist pass away. Eternity will never end.

“Preach the Word.”
