Onward Christian Soldier

God has commissioned us, his ambassadors, to go forth in battle and free those subdued the tyranny of sin. Christians must be ever mindful of those who are looking for escape. Moses, in Numbers 11:29, said “Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” Moses request has, in a way, been fulfilled beyond his wildest imagination. Christ has ascended to Heaven “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12).

Christian, you have been given a job from Christ. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Every job which Christ has given leads to the glorification of God through the ministry of the Word. God is glorified when the lost or saved and the saved rejoice in their salvation. This glorious Gospel work is the work of evangelism. Evangelism is “The proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ, which arises naturally from believers’ love for God and appreciation of all that God has done for them.”[1]

Marshall Keeble said, “If we ever needed the Gospel at any age of the world it is now.” That was over fifty years ago. Every age needs the Gospel, and no sin should ever be taken lightly, but American society is now openly and aggressively anti-Christian. Of those who are not openly and aggressively against Christianity, many are apathetical to the cause. Christian, it is time to wake up. Get to work. Preach the Word. Be diligent in your service. Jesus has Gospel work for you to do.
