“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). Christians, we need to pray. We pray for everyone. We pray for those who persecute us (Matt. 5:4; Lk. 6:28). We pray for people to be restored (2 Cor. 13:9). We pray for Christians in general (Col. 1:3, 9). We pray that Christians will grow (2 Thess. 1:11).

We need to pray for our leaders. Paul wrote, “Brothers, pray for us” (1 Thess. 5:25).   Being a Christian is the best life, but it comes with difficulties. Leading other Christians is especially difficult because you are responsible for yourself (which is hard), you are responsible for others (which is hard), and the devil works on you specially to make more people fail at once (which is easy for him).

So, brothers and sisters, pray for your leaders. Paul wrote, “Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored” (2 Thess. 3:1). Hebrews 13:18 says, “Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.”

Our leaders are human just like us. We all have weaknesses and we all have sins. Thankfully, we all have a great God upon whom we may depend. These difficult times of normal life, coronavirus, economic hardship, spiritual decline, and competing opinions for success and safety, our leaders are especially deserving and needful of our prayers. Everyone wants to do the right thing in the best way. Unfortunately, no one knows exactly what that is. Pray. Pray for your church leaders. Pray for world leaders. Pray for families. Pray for yourself. We need the Lord.
