God is not silent. Being a loving God who wants us to share in his glory, he has revealed his will, his love, his holiness, and his way of salvation so that we can be with him forever. God’s message was first revealed in small ways to fathers and prophets–Heb. 1:1. But now, God’s final message was delivered through his Son–”in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.”
Instead of the “hints” about Christ revealed in the Old Testament days, Jesus is the full revelation of God’s character. Look at the way God described his Son: he is the messenger of the last days, he is the Creator of the world, he is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe (Heb. 1:2-3). As Jesus said, “if you have seen me, you have seen the Father.”
Jesus doesn’t just let us know what God is like, Jesus also lets us know that we can be with God through him. Jesus made purification for our sins (Heb. 1:3). Jesus sits by the Father’s right hand (Heb. 1:3). He is our Savior and our Mediator.
We should not look for another message. God has told us that Jesus is the final message. Jesus is the best message we could hope to hear. If we listen to any other message, we are robbing ourselves of the opportunity to hear the best. Jesus paid for our sins. Our hearts should belong only to him. No one else should have our attention or allegiance. Jesus is our heavenly Mediator. Why would we want to hear from someone lower in rank?
We should praise God for speaking to us in Christ. We should follow God’s message from Christ recorded in the Scriptures. We should place our allegiance only with God and the message he sent. We should never turn our attention to something less than the great Messenger God has offered us.
